About Our Saint
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Saint Sebastian – Our Patron Saint
Saint Sebastian was a brave and faithful Christian who lived during the Roman Empire in the 3rd century. He was a soldier in the Roman army but stayed true to his faith, secretly helping Christians who were being persecuted. Because of his courage and devotion, he became one of the Church’s most admired martyrs.
When the Roman leaders discovered his faith, they shot him with arrows, leaving him for dead. Miraculously, he survived and continued to help others. Later, he was clubbed to death for remaining steadfast in his belief in Christ. His story reminds us that true courage comes from standing up for what is right and trusting in God, even when it is difficult.
Saint Sebastian is remembered as a protector and role model. At St Sebastian’s School, his example inspires us to be brave, kind, and faithful, and to help others in our community. Our school badge, which features arrows and crosses, represents the courage and faith he showed throughout his life. It is a visible reminder to our pupils and staff of the Gospel values of love, forgiveness, courage, and service that our school aims to live out every day.
Through his life, Saint Sebastian encourages our school community to grow spiritually, morally, and academically in an atmosphere of mutual respect, care, and faith, following his example of steadfastness, compassion, and courage.
Saint Sebastian’s feast day is celebrated on 20th January each year. It is a special day in our school calendar for remembering his courage, faith and example of loving service. At St Sebastian’s School, we celebrate his feast day with prayer, reflection and activities that help children understand his life and the values he stood for.
