RSE - Journey in Love
“We love because God first loved us.”
A Journey in Love – Relationship Sex Education
A Journey in Love is the recommended programme of study for Catholic schools for Relationship and Sex Education (RSE). Written as a progressive scheme of work, it supports the Religious Education, PSHE and Science curriculum, providing children with a secure understanding of themselves and the wider world as they grow.
At St Sebastian’s, we deliver this programme alongside our PHSE, ensuring that all statutory objectives are met while keeping the spiritual, emotional, moral and social development of every child at the heart of our teaching.
The content of A Journey in Love is age-appropriate and delivered sensitively, taking into account each child’s level of maturity. Children are naturally curious, and opportunities to ask questions are built into lessons. These discussions are approached with care, understanding and respect for the child’s developing sense of self. The programme also highlights the importance of parental involvement, encouraging children to continue these conversations at home.
Rooted in the Catholic understanding of the human person, A Journey in Love recognises that every individual is created in the image and likeness of God. Our approach to RSHE therefore reflects the Catholic Church’s teaching on love, dignity, and respect, presenting these values within a positive framework of Christian ideals. Through this programme, and in partnership with families, we aim to nurture the spiritual, physical, intellectual, emotional, and moral growth of each child.
At St Sebastian’s, we believe that A Journey in Love promotes the development of the whole child, helping them to grow in virtue, wisdom, and understanding as they explore relationships, identity, and God’s love within a Christian vision for life.
