Y1 Trip to the Fire Station - 26.02.2026

“Jane called us up about three in the morning to tell us of a great fire in the City.” Samuel Pepys, 1666

This morning, our Year 1 pupils recently enjoyed an exciting and educational visit to our local Fire Station (Kensington) as part of their History topic on the Great Fire of London.

After a last‑minute cancellation due to firefighters being called to an emergency before our previously scheduled visit, we were all delighted that the trip could finally go ahead! The children were very excited to meet the firefighters and learn more about their important work in keeping our community safe.

During the visit, the firefighters gave a fascinating talk about fire safety and explained how firefighting has changed since the Great Fire of London in 1666. The children discovered how people in the past used simple tools such as buckets and hand pumps to fight fires, whereas modern fire services use specialised equipment and engines to respond quickly to emergencies.

The highlight of the visit for many of our children was getting the chance to sit inside a real fire engine and even have a turn using the fire hose under the careful guidance of the firefighters. It was a wonderful hands‑on experience that helped bring their history topic to life.

The visit also gave our children a glimpse into the long history of firefighting in Liverpool. Kensington Fire Station plays a key role in the community, responding to fires, rescues and other emergencies while also promoting fire safety awareness.

We are very grateful to the firefighters for giving their time to speak with our children and for making the visit so engaging and memorable. A special thank you to Ms Chan and Ms Tabone for organising this fantastic learning opportunity.

It was lovely to welcome the children back to school, with children buzzing with excitement and keen to talk about their visit and how firefighters protect us, keeping us safe!
