Year of the Word
Year of the Word
The Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales have declared 2020 to be a year of special focus on the Bible.
This marks the tenth anniversary of Pope Benedict XVI's Apostolic Exhortation, Verbum Domini, (The Word of the Lord) and the 1600 years since the death of Saint Jerome - who translated the Bible into Latin.
The year started on the Feast of Saint Jerome, 30 September 2019, and runs until 31 December 2020.
During this year we are called to explore and celebrate the Word of God through the Scriptures, share the Word with others and respond to the "God who speaks" in the way that we live.
Today in school we launched our celebrations of Year of the Word. We began with an assembly and our mission was to explore Matthew's Gospel within our classes and choose a piece of scripture we would like to explore. Each class decided how they would like to express their thoughts on this scripture to the rest of the school through arts, dance, music, drama or writing. This is only the beginning of our mission to spread the word of God.
At the end of our assembly each class where gifted a new bible to place on their prayer focus.
Our Celebration Assembly
Father Mark joined us in our mission to Spread the word of God this afternoon. He brought 4 of his bibles with him and explained how he uses them in church. We then shared how we had reflected on Mathew's Gospel throughout the day.
